Fishing Lures

Some of these lure heads are re-creations of older lures that are hard to get or aren’t made anymore, while others are ones we designed ourselves. Kyle being the master fisherman could tell you all about them. He uses these that we create in his own fishing trips and some of the local tackle shops are now ordering them.

Most of these lures are for sale. We sell the heads and beads. We do not sell them completely rigged. We are not interested in rigging them ourselves and most tackle shops ordering them would like to rig them themselves regardless. If you have any questions about squids for these guys, we have a few suppliers we cant point you to, and are currently testing new suppliers to give everybody a wider variety of squid options that they can order themselves.

We are still working on pricing for them as well so depending on how many you order could change that, as well as bulk ordering and minimum ordering limits can change the price. Contact us for more info if you are interested.

If you have your own idea for lures youd like us to help develope for you, check out our services page or contact us.

Lure Heads

The Keys Disease

"This head chugs like crazy and smokes a ton. Great anywhere on the ocean."

Modeled after a lure head that was popular in the Keys. It was originally made by a retired vet. He was retiring from making these too. Obviously we got permission from him to replicate his lure heads and fill the gap he would leave in the market as he retired.

I originally was calling this the chugger...because that's exactly what it does. it has 4 holes on a diagonal around the central hole.

Ideal spread location: Outrigger

Screaming Red Head

"Designed to throw water everywhere and demand attention. This head screams for strikes"

Based off another popular lure that was mainly used for Marlin. Kyle usually hands me stuff and says GO! and then I respond with DONE! and then hand him whatever he gave me. So I am not sure where he got this one or who its original owner or designer was. But it is based on a larger Lure head that was used for Wahoo and Marlin fishing. We have larger versions, but this one itself is a shrunk down miniature version.

It tends to run back and forth in the water due to the diagonal slant on the outside of it.

Ideal spread location: Outrigger

Burnout

"Burnout's always lit. Puffing smoke like it's got nowhere else to be."

This one here is our own design. There are several other people that have something similar as well. Ours has 6 slits in a radial pattern on the outside. Kyle told me about this one and the first two versions I made based on what he exaplained were not close to what he wanted. The only way he could describe what he meant was by saying pretend to take a drop saw to the edge. So I modeled a drop saw shape on the edge in a polar array and VOILA!

Ideal Spread Location: Short

Crazy Cuban

"This thing is dipping, diving, and chugging in every direction. It's trying to run away but just can't."

This design is one of our own originals. It has the holes in the top like a chugger, and an extra little lip on it halfway down. The lip itself is like a moat. Its hard to see but it does curve in a bit to try to create a large bubble around it.

It almost looks like a revolver chamber from the top and part of the design was based on the Screaming Red Head which was mainly used in marlin fishing, and part based on the Keys Disease which was predominantly a Mahi lure.

Ideal spread location: Short

The four lure heads above have an interesting bottom designed for them. Kyle was trying to come up with a way to be able to rig them and keep them from coming off without having to resort to tying the squids on like a majority of lures, or without having to use a ton of glue. I ended up designing the bottom of the head (inside the squid) to have little spikes on them that would grab the squid and prevent it from coming off. This actually worked quite well, but the longevity was a bit of a problem because the squid would get torn up a bit. So I also added a spiral groove above it that you could also add a bit of glue and secure it.

Lure Head Accessories

The Hook Bead

Most fisherman rigging lures like ours end up using some sort of bead. The beads help to position the hook further down the squid without it going through the hole on a lure head. Kyle liked this idea however there is one glaring problem with the beads...they dont prevent the hook itself from twisting and spinning in turn affecting the lure performance.

So this one is one of our own ORIGINAL designs. I took a bead he gave me just for size. What I came up with is a little bit different. I created a bead that's a bit longer, has insert holes at the bottom the hook loop can sit in, sized from 6 to 8/0 sizes. The other end is octagonal shaped and slides into the end of the lure head itself. This not only prevents spinning, but the bead will come out of the head after the fish strikes it.

What are our lure heads made out of?

You'll notice our lure heads have a distinct blue color. Ultimately color does play a small factor, however most bigger game fish that these are used for care more about what they do and how they flow in the water as predators are more visual hunters versus color. We could make them out of other colors, but the material itself was what we wanted.

Originally I made them out of a basic red resin. When I handed them to Kyle I literally told him to smash it on the ground and let me know what happens. Well it shattered (I was expecting it to). So the design was good, the material was lacking. I ended up doing a bit more digging and found an engineering resin I thought would work. Kyle said it needed to be able to take a beating because if you pulled a fish on deck and it was flopping around, the lure head would also be smashing against the deck. So this blu engineering resin was the answer. It didn't shatter when he tried smashed it on the ground.

The Tackle Box

The Tackle Box is a local tackle shop located on Marathon. Chris is the owner who knows Kyle. Chris was having problems with quality control on the lure heads his former 3D printing supplier was producing for him. He asked if we could possibly create some of the lure heads. His former supplier was actually an FDM printer. He wanted to know if we could possibly deliver better quality of heads for around the same price or cheaper.

We accepted the challenge of course. This was one of our first real contracts. He ordered around 1000 Lure heads. As you will see below the ones we created for him were ones that he provided and I simply modeled for him. So these were not our original designs. Some of his heads came from his family generations before him that kind of passed the heads down to him. His former supplier also tried to recreate these, but did so very poorly in terms of what he heads looked like and couldn't change anything about them. We think the former supplier just got a similar file off the internet somewhere and was simply printing.

We took his order to heart and we produced what he was looking for. We definitely undercharged him, however this was our chance to prove ourselves as well as work out a cost system which we did. As a result the heads came out amazing and he wants to continue doing business with us. We do not sell these heads directly, you will have to contact him or go to his store directly in Marathon to pick some up. He fully rigs these.

He wanted the heads to be clear so we actually made them out of resin. The result was a much stronger head than FDM printing and we made them out of the same resin we make ours, just in a clear color.

The Original Grandaddy Head

This head here is one of the ones that I believe his grandfather has passed down to Chris. This was the one he was most interested in having reproduced out of the 3 he had provided us.

I don't know what he actually names or calls this one, I just call it the grandaddy because that's how I was distinguishing it when talking to Kyle about it.
