Our Services
Our Services
Whether you already have your files and just need to print, or you have no clue where to start, we can help transform that idea inside your head into a physical product.
Modeling/Prototyping
If you don’t have files ready to print, start here. This service is specifically for people who don’t know how or don’t have the time to model their idea and want help.
Step 1: The Consultation
The first step is to schedule a FREE consultation with us. During this consultation we will ask you several questions:
- What are you envisioning?
- What are the dimensions? How big do you expect or want it to be?
- What/How much are you going to be using it?
- Do you plan on mass production or a more limited run?
- Do you need help modeling it?
This will allow us to determine the feasibility of your idea as well as what type of printing is best and the best material to make it out of.
Step 2: Product Feasibility and Quote
Once We have determined the feasibility, we can give you a bit more information on what we think is possible, whether we think FDM printing or resin printing would be better and out of what specific material. Materials can range from simple ‘I just want to hold or have a decorative piece’ to ‘I want to beat this thing up until the cows come home’.
We determine the kind of printer mainly based on the design itself. Sometimes printing with FDM is better simply because of the geometry, while other times Resin is better. In some cases the same type of material can be used in both kinds of printing, just how they are printed and their post processing is different.
We can also determine a quote number for you here depending on design time, print time, and material type.
Step 3: The Magic of Modeling
If you would like help modeling, this is where the magic starts to happen. We will help design and model your idea.
In our consultation and feasibility we will get an idea on what your looking for. We will spend time on the modeling itself and after we have an initial first model we will then bring you in for your suggestions and considerations. Of course we will do our best to model exactly what you would like, but some modeling and ideas might have to be adjusted due to printing constraints which we will discuss and help you understand.
After we have something you are happy with, we can do a couple different things.
Step 4A: Model Files
If you are satisfied with the model but you are looking more specifically for production out of metal/machining then we can give you your files in a multitude of different types. We have experience sending some of our previous projects to machine shops and know what they might want or expect.
These can include CAD files, dimensional drawings, or simple pictures.
Step 4B: Prototyping
If you are satisfied with the model and want to continue with us with printing because you aren’t ready to step straight into machining or don’t need it specifically machined, then we move onto 3D-printing.
Whichever path you choose, our goal is for you to end up with something, either your model files or an actual physical prototype.
Step 5: Your Creation Come to Life
This is where we actually print and create your model. After its finished printing we can post process it. Then we can either send it to you or we can do a video call so you can see it in person. In most instances we understand that the first print will probably not be what you expect so we do not limit you to just the one prototype in the quote. Depending on size, we can reprint with some changes at no additional cost.
If all goes as planned and you are happy and want to produce more, we can discuss our production service.
3D-Printing Services
Limited/Prototype Run
If you have your files from one of our previous services, or your own files then we can help 3D print it.
This service is aimed at beginning the printing process and we recommend this service before going straight to mass/long term production. That way we can print one or two of your products and show you what we can do for you and then if you are happy with that we can move to longer term production.
Mass/Long Term Production
If you are ready for mass production rather than just prototyping, we can help with that too.
A couple of things we would need to know would be how long you want to run, your time schedule for the parts you need, number of different parts, size, and a few other factors. Most of this you will help us determine during your initial free consultation.
FDM Printing
FDM printing (also known as Fused Deposition Modeling) is using a specific kind of filament for additive manufacturing (a fancy word you will see all over the place simply meaning 3D-printed). It builds a model or product layer by layer vertically upward. There are many different kinds of printers and what they can do is amazing.
For our FDM prints we use the Centauri Carbon. This printer has an enclosure as well as a specific nozzle that allows us to print a few engineering filaments that we frequently use due to the nature of our products. We tend to use ASA which is a kind of filament that is very UV and salt water resistant and is made to last in a marine environment. But we can definitely use other filaments and in some cases might recommend cheaper filament for a first print like PLA which can print faster and is very good to get an idea on what the prototype will come out like.
Our Tuna Tubes are one such products that uses FDM printing. Check them out here.
Resin Printing
Much like FDM printing, resin printing builds a model layer by layer, but with a different process and different materials. Some materials can frequently be found in both FDM or resin printing, such as ABS. You can have ABS filament, or an ABS like resin so in terms of what the model is made out of doesn’t specifically change a whole ton.
For our resin printers we use the Anycubic Mono M7 Max and the Saturn 4 Ultra 16K. The Anycubic is great for batch printing or big models. The Saturn is good for smaller prototypes as well as batch printing. Resin printing generally is for more detailed models, but requires more post processing and generally will be a bit more expensive.
Our lure heads are made with resin printing and an engineering resin. Check those out here.
